La Ventana on the Sea of Cortez is a well-known water sport destination that is quickly attracting fun and sun seekers to its unique and beautiful location. Locally based activities include: Kite and wind surfing, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), mountain biking through the ancient cactus forest, snorkeling with gentle whale sharks, and, of course, fishing - which is how the Mexican Baja began to grow from the 1970s.

La Ventana is approximately 30 minutes from La Paz, the capital city of Baja California Sur. La Ventana means "the window" in Spanish. The view to Cerralvo Island (officially Jacques Cousteau island) is stunning, framed by the L-shaped land extending out into the sea. The area has been made famous to and by wind chasers who enjoy kite and wind surfing. Over the years these sport enthusiasts have transformed La Ventana and the surrounding areas from a sleepy local village to a bustling and developed community.

The ethos is focused on living well in a simple and natural, active and diverse area. Here you will meet born and raised locals, transplants who have come to work in the growing community, and an abundance of US and Canadians who live here for weeks or months during the winter.

The area villages include La Ventana, El Teso and El Sargento. Surrounding the villages are the beautiful ancient cactus forests, continuous beaches and the Sea of Cortez.

Many in the community have developed and maintain a large network of trails for walking and mountain biking. One notable and unique feature is the ability to make a natural hot spring bath by digging out the sand on one of the beaches.
